Hey, did you hear? Woodcutting season officially started on April 13th, 2019 for the Coconino National Forest, meaning that woodcutting season is in full swing. It’s time to buy and/or service a saw so you can get all the wood for the next round of bad weather or for a nice summer bonfire. Here at HomCo, we sell and service all STIHL products, so if you’re looking for a chainsaw, come by and talk to our helpful associates!

Luckily for you, STIHL is having their Dealer Days Sale right now. The STIHL MS 170 is $20 off, going from $179 to $159.

“The STIHL MS 170 is the perfect lightweight chainsaw for homeowners seeking a great value. Compact, lightweight with just the right amount of power, the MS 170 makes quick work of trimming or cutting small trees, fallen limbs after a storm, and other tasks around the yard. And even at its great price, the MS 170 has many of the same design features the professionals depend on.”

But that is not the only deal available, you can save $30 by purchasing both the STIHL FSA 56 Trimmer and BGA 56 Blower Set now for only $319.

If I was to pick a chainsaw, the Professional Series MS261C-M would be at the top of my list. It’s lightweight at a conformable weight of 10.8lbs and has an extraordinary amount of power for its size at 4.0bhp. A lighter and more powerful model makes cutting more and cutting longer a breeze. It also comes with all the trimmings of the STIHL Professional Saw line, a magnesium engine case, captured bar nuts and a slimline sprocket cover. If that is still too heavy, STIHL has the Rollomatic E Light bar that you can put on your chainsaw to lighten the load. There are also different grades of chains which can make cutting easier and faster.

If that is not what you are looking for, another great chainsaw is the MS 271. Dan Simpson, a supervisor here at HomCo, loves his MS 271. Dan believes that it is the best saw for the homeowner that cuts wood for their heat because it is easy to run and work. He also expresses that it is a must to have the carbide chain because it stays sharper longer than a standard chain which means more efficiency! Richard, an associate in the tool department, had a MS 290, but switched it to a MS 271 because is lighter and with the carbide chain it cuts like butter, cutting Oak or Juniper eight times faster than a regular chain. Plus, the carbide chain can be sharpened here at HomCo for the same price as a standard chain.

STIHL has taken the guesswork out of picking a chainsaw. Use STIHL’s Buying Guide to help you select the perfect saw for you. STIHL has a selection of chainsaws for the homeowner, Farmer/Rancher and Professional. Also available is the STIHL Battery Powered chainsaws. All STIHL Chainsaw models start with MS, but when looking at the guide, please note that C means it has a comfort feature, B means Quick chain Adjuster, E is for Easy-to-Start system, and Q is an additional chain brake system on the saw.

Want to customize your chainsaw?

Why not customize it with a different bar or chain? STIHL has eight different types of bars for the MS chainsaw, so everyone’s needs are met. STIHL recommends using the low-kickback, green labeled chain and green labeled reduced-kickback bar on all powerheads. If you want to learn more about what the eight different types of bars, please go to https://www.stihlusa.com/products/chain-saws/guide-bars/dure/.

When it comes to STIHL chains, every saw chain is manufactured to incorporate their exclusive, patented OILOMATIC lubricating feature to maximize the use of bar oil. STIHL has labeled their chains with a color system.

YELLOW means that the chains has an increased risk of kickback and is for used only by persons with extraordinary cutting needs and is experiences.

GREEN indicates that the chain has reduced kickback and reduced vibration features. This is the chain recommended by STIHL. Then, there is the STIHL Duro carbide-tipped saw chains. It is a bit more than most chains, but everyone that has used it states it’s worth every penny.
